Gator Nation Giving Day

Stand Up & Holler: Gator Nation Giving Day is an all-day fundraising event that calls on the University of Florida alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and families and friends to come together to support UF and all of its areas of positive impact in our state, nation and world.

This year, Gator Nation Giving Day falls on February 18, 2021, and the Office of Professional and Workforce Development (OPWD) is focusing on putting donations toward our programs that have been training essential workers for over 40 years.

During the pandemic there were many jobs that couldn’t stop because they were, and continue to be, an integral part of our everyday lives. Thanks to essential environmental workers, we continued to have clean drinking water, dirty water did not backflow into our homes and our trash was picked up.

Many of these workers in the state of Florida have gotten their certifications through University of Florida Training, Research and Education for Environmental Occupations (UF TREEO), the University’s environmental training center providing non-credit continuing education courses and certificate programs to those working in environmental professions.

A few examples of what essential workers do for you:

Asbestos Abatement workers keep the air in your houses and workplaces safe.

Backflow Prevention workers prevent backflow of dirty water.

Solid Waste Management workers protect you and the environment.

Water/Wastewater operators keep your drinking water clean.

Your gift, of any amount, directly supports the continued education of workers we just can’t live without!
