SANParks Climate Change Adaptation Strategic Framework and Implementation Plan.

Abstract:
National Parks are important for national strategy on dealing with climate change. They themselves face varied challenges including land degradation, alien invasion and climate change. In this talk the focus will be on how SANParks has been developing its strategy and implementation plan to adapt to climate change. Adaptation actions chosen for different national park regions through a consultative process will be highlighted. The IUCN framework to designing climate change adaptation strategies was followed. Challenges and opportunities will be discussed.
Biography:
Mmoto works for SANPARKS as a Landscape Ecologist. His research focuses on socio-ecological vulnerability to climate change, climate change mitigation and adaptation in national parks. He leads the development of Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Implementation Plan. Mmoto has also worked on habitat change and land degradation near protected areas in most biomes in the country. He represents SANParks in various National Working Groups on Climate Change Adaptation and Land Degradation.
